The West Wing: Obama's White House
What is it like to be the US President? Despite lingering and divided reactions to last week's speech on the US involvement in Libya and concerns of a government shutdown this week, President Barack Obama quietly launched his 2012 re-election campaign a few days ago, tying in neatly with the last post's theme on the Obama Hope poster.
Events and announcements like these are never taken lightly, and it would be interesting to find out what goes on in the White House when the President makes his decisions. Thankfully, there is a way to look at Obama's day-to-day activities through the White House Flickr account.
This is the official photostream of the White House as captured by the Pete Souza, the Chief Official White House Photographer, along with the help of his staff at the Photo Office.
There are more of these photographs over at the White House Flickr photostream. Pete Souza's account of President Obama's campaign can be found in The Rise of Barack Obama. The first year of the President can be read in The President's Photographer: Fifty Years Inside the Oval Office or seen in The President's Photographer: 50 Years Inside the Oval.
I think he will be re-elected, mainly because of the lack of a real competitor at the moment.
ReplyDeleteHe's just the man that pushes the buttons =P
ReplyDeleteGreat picture of a seat so many want but whoever sits in it will never be fully loved or be allowed to do the right thing.
ReplyDeletethose pictures seem so cozy, just a fireplace missing in the first one :)
ReplyDeleteGreat color schemes.
ReplyDeleteInteresting pics
ReplyDeleteIf he sends troops into Libya, he can not count on my vote.
ReplyDeleteCandid pictures of the president are always interesting
ReplyDeleteI didn't even know about this
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures, but I would never want to be the President! Too much stress.
ReplyDeleteNice photos, I have seen his documentary on national geography
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures, like always
ReplyDeletedidnt know they had a flickr

ReplyDeleteQuiet is damned sure the word . . . . I did not know until I read this.
ReplyDelete^ me neither but i honestly hope he doesnt get relected but like pezaised this isnt much decent competition
ReplyDeleteI feel so damned out of the look.....
ReplyDeleteI don't believe in the government, those pictures are lies! The cake is a lie!
ReplyDeletenice pics
ReplyDeletecool i must checkout this photo scheme
ReplyDeleteWhat a fascinating job that would be. I mean Souza's of course.
ReplyDeletei think he is a puppet of the industrie and just got told in the first pic
ReplyDeleteI second the need for a fire place.
ReplyDeleteLove the picture. Hope he will get reelected.
ReplyDeleteFor sure, those are some nice pictures from the White House.
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are great!
ReplyDeletelike Slamcakes said hope it won't happen
ReplyDeletePresident teleprompt.
ReplyDeletemust be nice :D
ReplyDeletemost likely he will get re elected!
ReplyDeleteI find it cool they got a man to take pictures of their business, and upload it to the internet. Makes them a bit more... open.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures, man!
ReplyDeleteDespite what many people say, I think Obama is the best US president in awhile.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm not American.
Hard working man though
ReplyDeletePete is a spy! a russian spy! theres a laser in his camera!
ReplyDeleteMan, he looks so serious.
ReplyDeleteAmazing photos, I wonder what's the story behind the Presidential Desk.
ReplyDeletenice post, following!
ReplyDeleteEww, i HATE Obama. What a bad president.
ReplyDeletepoor guy, funny how we elect one man to be a target for all the administration's bullshit. He did fine. Government shutdown may mean I don't get 1000 back in my return !
ReplyDeleteVery nice shots tho. thanks for sharing
I'd love to be a fly on the wall.
ReplyDeletedat Obama
ReplyDeleteWhat a lifestyle!
ReplyDeleteA Flickr account? Well that's pretty interesting if I say so myself.
ReplyDeletenice pictures!
ReplyDeleteI just hope he can sign off on the budget soon and put some pressure on the guys we all want to fire for not doing their jobs.
ReplyDeleteIt might all be good for our nation in the long run, but for now it is a bit embarrassing for our nation, is it not?
So, does anyone else here think Obama is gonna be re-elected?
ReplyDeleteI want a desk like that.
ReplyDeleteNice photo of the prez, really enjoy your blog.
ReplyDeleteQuietly is right, I never even knew.
ReplyDeleteThe first is a great picture!
ReplyDeletewouldn't this be the second time the US government has shut down? One Australians view (me) is the same as my opinion of our own prime minister. which is, well, they can't do any worse than the last guy..
ReplyDeletegreat photos, I just wish I could be more inspired by his actions than how he looks in pictures =/
ReplyDeleteI'd love to be President. I'd make it look easy <3
ReplyDeleteWow, the last pic looks so awsome
ReplyDeleteThe last pic has an awsome room
ReplyDeleteObama is a badass. Enough said.
ReplyDeleteAll we can do is HOPE
ReplyDeleteI would love working at the White House as a Photographer! :)
ReplyDeleteI dunno if he'll be re-elected, but it'll be a certainly a weird election.
ReplyDeleteIm with Kanika he looks like a man that can rule properly
ReplyDeleteThough the first one looks more "posed", I greatly prefer its composition.
ReplyDeleteMust get annoying having pictures taken all the time.
ReplyDeleteVery colourful photos! I like'em
ReplyDeleteVery nice pictures. Being the President must be so much work.
ReplyDeleteHe does look pretty dignified. I don't think that everyone would accept him even if he was the greatest president ever. The well-being of the country looks so different in different peoples eyes
ReplyDeleteI wonder if he'll make it to a 2nd term?
ReplyDeleteWell if they can't put out the budget, at least the White House can put out some nice looking photos...
ReplyDeletei sat on Obama's office... in Maddam Tussauds museum :D
ReplyDeletehe's looking busy. i wonder if he actually does anything
ReplyDeleteThese are some nice shots
ReplyDeleteThe republicans don't let him do what he wants and they say "told you so" when he doesn't do what he said he would do. Unfair. (I'm sure it's not that cut and dry, but it seems like it at times.)
ReplyDeletePresident=hardest job on planet.
ReplyDeleteObama is alright I guess.
ReplyDeleteIs it the right thing to do to vote for a president based on race?
ReplyDeleteDamn I want to like this guy again...
ReplyDeleteYou learn every new thing everyday
ReplyDeleteI'm neutral on this.
ReplyDeleteI'm most likely not voting for him in 2012. If Donald Trump is my man this time.
ReplyDeletei wonder if they made him pose for the pic like that?
ReplyDeleteno opinion
ReplyDeleteWhat a great photo
ReplyDeleteI support barack obama regardless of the haters. they dont have their facts straight. he can't be jesus.
ReplyDeleteLanding Souza's job has got to be the photography equivalent of winning a Super Bowl. What an awesome job to follow the President around taking potentially historic pictures.
ReplyDeletegreat inside pictures, never seen it like that
ReplyDeletevery nice desk
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link to the Flickr page. I'm an artist and these will be great reference material.
ReplyDeleteWow realy nice pictures, have a warming feel to them.
ReplyDelete^ lol @ electric
ReplyDeleteI really hope he that he will be reelected because he didn't really had a chance to fulfill all the things he said because of the other parties.
ReplyDeleteWow these photos are so vivid!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures :) i love the quality
ReplyDeletegotta be hard bein the man.
ReplyDeletewow, "head of updating flikr" i want that job.
ReplyDeleteO good job bravo!
ReplyDeleteNo one will ever be completely satisfied with a president. What I can say though is that he damn well deserves respect. No one can take these situations little, and the wear it causes on a man visible. Even in the short time Obama has been in power so far, the toll on his appearance is visible. It was also apparent in Clinton and Bush.
ReplyDeleteeek government stuff - never really pay any attention to these guys. just eek lol
ReplyDeletefollowed

ReplyDeletei think he will get in by a fair margin
ReplyDeleteThe president has a flickr account no way! I couldn't imagine my prime minister having one of those.
ReplyDeleteMan the white house is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe president is just a lightening rod/figure head. The real work is done behind the scenes.
ReplyDeletenice photo.
ReplyDeletethere are no real options for voting.
I don't care what anyone says. I love Obama.
ReplyDeletehe looks totally guilty. get barry satoero out of there
ReplyDeleteinteresting post! :D
ReplyDeleteboring subject, nice lighting
ReplyDeleteNice pictures, its too bad Obama wont be reelected after such a failure of a term.
ReplyDeleteThat first one is actually pretty impressive. Gorgeous composition and capture.
ReplyDeleteThese really are nice photos. They capture so much.
ReplyDeletethis picture captures what europeans suggest with the US president
ReplyDeletelooks like hes telling that other guy "bring out the gimp"and the other guy is like "the gimp is a sleep" and then obama says "well then i guess you are just going to have to wake him up "
ReplyDeleteThe UK loves Obama ;D
