Iconic Photos Blog


While this blog is meant to feature the newest and best images and gear in the world of photography, it will also celebrate old photographs that have either captured the most influential moments in the history of the world, or have inspired different groups, countries and governments into significant and often times radical change.

Instead of listing all the photographs that deliver these requirements, have a look instead at the Iconic Photos Blog, the website dedicated to this particular endeavor. There you will find, as its tag line suggests, all of the famous, infamous and iconic photos in the last 200 years since the invention of photography.

Most of the pictures deal with war and politics, as these have so often transformed peoples and places in relatively short periods of time. While you will often find the images in these categories gloomy and disheartening, there are rare moments of joy and celebration such as the famous Victory Day Kiss by Alfred Eisenstaedt above, which captures the hopeful sentiments of millions across America and around the world at the end of the Second World War.

Other photographs deal with memorable occasion in sports, society and culture. Occasionally they describe anecdotes that have spread through the generations, but there are also little gems that commemorate the achievements of both man and nature like the photograph below of Secretariat winning the Belmont Stakes by Bob Coglianese.

    I almost always bounce through blogs about photography, noting a lack of original content. This is something different. Coherent and concise discussion of the photographs and the techniques used to capture them is valuable. Great stuff.
